Caravaggio: His Late Painting Method with Martinho Correia

Martinho Correia is a contemporary realist painter from Calgary.  He has a Fine Arts degree from the University of Calgary, an Education degree from the University of British Columbia, and a Masters in Architecture, Sacred Art and Liturgy from the European University in Rome.  He studied and taught for several years at the Angel Academy of Art in Florence.  To learn more about Martinho, visit his website at: Martinho's website .

In this intensive five day on-line workshop, you will study and apply the techniques of Caravaggio, one of the great masters of sacred art.  Working from a high resolution print (chosen from a selection), you will transfer your image to a prepared canvas.

Caravaggio Supply List

From there, Martinho will lead you through a discussion of Caravaggio’s painting practice: for example, wash drawing, abozzo, over-painting, through to final glazes.  The first part of each day will be spent in discussion and observation; in the second half of the day, you will work on your piece, guided by Martinho, who will provide critique and feedback.  The morning demonstrations will be recorded and available to students for reference.

Once registered for the workshop, you will receive a supplies list, and instructions on how to prepare your canvas. You will need to download the ZOOM app.  You will also need an ipad or iphone set up on a tripod so that Martinho can observe and critique your work.
