Painting Still Life in Oil in the Dutch Tradition with Kathy McNenly

Katherine McNenly has a Fine Arts degree from York University and spent her formative years in the studio of the renowned portrait artist John Angel.  She has been featured in the International Artist Magazine and was a finalist in their 2009 Still Life Competition.  She has been a finalist in the Canadian Portrait Society's Annual Competition, The Kingston Prize and in the Portrait Society of America's International Portrait Competition 2012, where she received an Honour Award. Her work is in private collections across Canada, the United States and Europe.

Join Kathy as she introduces you to the Dutch Naturalistic Tradition, a multi-layered approach to painting still life in oils.  The first layer consists of a monochromatic tonal drawing.  The second layer involves a transparent application of full colour, also known as dead colouring.  The third and a fourth layer, if needed, involve impasto and glazing techniques to complete the work.

Kathy will show you how to develop your drawing from life and transfer it to the canvas. You will understand the materials and enhance your knowledge of colour mixing. Throughout this four day workshop, Kathy will demonstrate daily and provide plenty of individual support to help you to fully understand and replicate the process
