The Kanata Art Club typically meets on the second Thursday afternoon of each month (except for July and August). Note that meeting times may vary, depending upon the availability of our guest speakers. KAC members will receive a Flash Notice of the time, place and theme of each meeting. The meetings begin with Kanata Art Club business followed by announcements of events, shows and activities.
The highlight of each meeting is a guest speaker from the Arts community, sharing their expertise and their personal artistic journey. On the second Thursday of December, we celebrate the end of the year with an informal get together.
The meetings are held at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 1817 Richardson Side Road.
Nov. 7th 1:30pm Karen Bailey
November 7th, 2019, 1:30-3:30 p.m.
Karen Bailey is a graduate of the Reigate School of Art and Design in England. She has worked as a courtroom artist, a heraldic artist, and as a calligraphy illustrator for Appletree. But her passion is painting people! Her work features behind-the-scenes workers often not recognized by others...women preparing food for church events, waitresses serving customers, and hair stylists.
As the official military artist in Afghanistan in 2006, she documented Canadian medical staff working in the Kandahar Hospital, resulting in “Triage”, an extensive body of work that took over two years to complete. Karen has twice been awarded an Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation grant for drawing and painting. Her commissions include the official portrait of Michaelle Jean when she was Governor General. She has been exhibiting her work since 1981 with a detailed heraldic art submission at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. More recently she was featured in the Canadian War Museum exhibition with her largest canvas, “Blast Victims”. Karen has recently returned from her second inspiring adventure on Fogo Island.
