From Impression to Expression: Painting the Canadian Landscape with Marc Grandbois

A hundred years ago, the Group of Seven emerged as what became the major turning point to give Canadian art its own trademark.  Working mainly in plein air in the northern region of Saguenay, Quebec, artist Marc Grandbois is one of those artists following in the path of the great Canadian masters.  His contribution to the growing concern about the preservation of our environment is to create and show his original view of the natural beauty of the land.

Marc Grandbois is a member of the Institute of Figurative Art and the Federation of Canadian Artists. His works are found in fine art galleries and several collections in Canada, USA and abroad.

This workshop is for intermediate to advanced students working in acrylic. There will be a mix of plein air (weather permitting) and studio work.

In the mornings Marc will demo his technique, palette and approach.  Students will apply this knowledge to their work in the afternoon either in the studio or en plein air. A group critique will be held at the end of the second day.

Attention will be given to the power of colors, light and gesture; how to simplify and magnify things to express the artist's feelings.

A supply list and a list of suggested colours will be distributed to students prior to the start of the workshop.
