Judy Dana

I am a self-taught soft pastel and acrylic artist with creative interest in landscapes, nature, ballet, and portraiture. I appreciate the fluidity, transparency, layering and brilliance of pastels. The buttery thickness of the acrylic medium also intrigues me. I find myself drawn to painting impressionistic scenes or subjects utilizing acrylics.

I have taught a few art workshops in elementary school, plus a couple of adult pastel painting workshops from my home. One of my influences has been the painting style of French artist Edgar Degas, particularly his subject of ballerinas. I also favour the impressionist artists of the 19th century. In recent years I have come to truly love and be awed by our own cherished Group of Seven and Tom Thomson, for their amazing connection with, and representation of, our beautiful northern Canadian landscape.
